This song was inspired by a riot I was caught up in. Things got pretty violent and the whole experience left me quite bitter and angry at the way the whole thing was handled by police. The cause of the riot was absurd, and a lot of people including myself were hurt. I had already written the music for the song, and the words were put together as fast as I can say them the moment I got home. The band channeled a lot of aggression into their performance and the song really captured the feeling of the lyrics and the riot.
lyrics
There's blood on the face of pain painted walls
and I can't break free
They Smile crooked teeth, and wink evil eyes
at those who succeed.
There's only one victim involved
There's only one victim involved
And he Smiles just like me
Cries Just like me
Believing the lies, we're leaving our homes
I trusted your face
I followed the truth
but it's gone.
Copper thrown sharp
By faces of Sand
That look just like me
There's fist broken glass under my feet
We came to be free
There's only one victim involved
There's only one victim involved
And he Smiles just like me
Cries Just like me
Believing the lies, we're leaving our homes
I trusted your face
I followed the truth
but it's gone.
You've got to kill the preaching
got to kill the preaching now
There's only one victim involved
There's only one victim involved
And he Smiles just like me
Cries Just like me
Believing the lies, we're leaving our homes
I trusted your face
I followed the truth
but it's gone.
